Selected applicants will be appointed for a period of one year. The tenure of appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of funds.
1. Project Name & Funding Authority: International Cancer Genome Consortium – India Project [funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India].
Project Description: The International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) has been launched to coordinate largescale cancer genome studies in tumours from major cancer types that are of clinical and societal importance across the globe. The Indian initiative of the ICGC is on gingivo-buccal oral cancer (GBOC). The ICGC Laboratory of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics is the site of genomic analyses of the initiative, which consists of next generation sequencing, genome wide scan and related activities. We are looking for motivated and bright individual who is interested to work on analysis of massively parallel DNA sequencing and microarray data generated by high throughput cutting edges platforms.

2. Project Name & Funding Authority: Identification of Recurrent Somatic Mutations in Gastric Adenocarcinoma in Mizo Population, Northeast India [funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India through North Eastern Region – Biotechnology Program Cell].
Project Description: The study aims to identify recurrently mutated driver genes in gastric cancer patients in Mizoram who are exposed to a unique set of environmental risk factors. The overarching goal of the study is to identify the spectrum of recurrently mutated genes which might drive tumorigenesis and the differences therein across clinically important sub phenotypes and assess the impact of environmental factors. We are looking for motivated and bright individual who is interested to work on genomics of gastric cancer, involving analysis and interpretation of massively parallel DNA sequencing data generated in the project and also scientifically contribute to the project goals.

3. Project Name & Funding Authority: Effect of Maternal Stress on Fetal Growth and Outcome: Development of Methods to Identify Mothers at Risk of Intrauterine Growth Restriction and Preterm Birth Due to Maternal Stress [Grand Challenge – India, All Children Thriving Grant funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation & Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council].
Project Description: The effect of stress on pregnant mothers can have important adverse effects on the outcome of pregnancy and intrauterine growth and development of fetus. The objective of the study is to develop biomarkers which can help us to identify pregnant mothers at risk of preterm birth and fetus at risk of developing intrauterine growth restriction due to exposure to maternal stress. This might result in the development of effective intervention program for such mothers and help in reducing incidences of poor pregnancy outcome and fetal health. We are looking for motivated and bright individual who is interested to work on maternal and child health biology, especially in the area of genomics, data and statistical analysis.

4. Project Name & Funding Authority: Understanding the biology of stem-like cancer cells from human oral tumors funded by Welcome Trust-Department of Biotechnology India Alliance.
Project Description : Oral cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in Indian population. The majority of the oral tumors do not respond satisfactorily to available treatments or quickly become non-responsive. This has prompted us to undertake an investigation on the biology of oral-stem-like cancer cells (Oral-SLCCs). These cells are believed to be associated with tumor initiation, propagation, metastasis, recurrence and resistance to therapy in a variety of cancers. Applications are invited for the position of Research Fellow to undertake the challenging yet fascinating and exciting task of identification of Oral-SLCCs from human tumors for its genomic and functional characterization. The age limit for the post is maximum 28 years on the last day of the application. Details of this position are listed below:
