Deemed Universities

1225. SHRI ALOK SANJAR:

Will the Minister of HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: 

(a) the details of the deemed universities in the country; 

(b) whether the Government has put a ban on a number of deemed universities in the country; 

(c) if so, the details thereof; and 

(d) the corrective steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): At present, 125 Deemed to be Universities are functioning in the country. State‐wise breakup of these Deemed to be Universities is Andhra Pradesh‐5, Arunachal Pradesh‐1, Bihar‐1, Chandigarh‐1, Delhi‐10, Gujarat‐2, Hariyana‐6, Jharkhand‐2, Karnataka‐14, Kerala‐2, Madhya Pradesh‐3, Maharashtra‐21, Odisha‐2, Punjab‐2, Pondicherry‐1, Rajasthan‐8, Tamil Nadu‐28, Telangana‐2, Uttar Pradesh‐10, Uttarakhand‐3 and West Bengal‐1.
