INVITES UNMARRIED OUTSTANDING SPORTSMEN TO JOIN THE INDIAN NAVY AS SHORT SERVICE COMMISSIONED OFFICERS IN EXECUTIVE BRANCH (SPORTS) JAN 2017 COURSE

1. Applications are invited from unmarried male Indian citizens for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Executive Branch (sports) in Indian Navy for the course commencing Jan 2017 at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala. Candidate to fulfill condition of nationality as laid down by the Govt. of India.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

2. Age
  • (a) For all sports except Yachting and Wind Surfing–22 to 27 years (born between 02 Jan 1990 and 01 Jan 1995).
  • (b) For Yachting and Wind Surfing-21-25 years (Born between 02 Jan 1992 and 01 Jan 1996). 
3. Education Qualification. Regular Post Graduate Degree or BE/B. Tech in any field from a recognised university. Candidates with diploma in Sports Coaching from National Institute of Sports and Msc in Sports (Coaching) will be given priority during short listing for SSB.

4. Sports Qualifications

(a) All sports other then Yachting and Wind Surfing. A candidate should have participated in Senior Level National Championships/Games in following disciplines:-
Athletics/CrossCountry/Triathlon /Tennis/Squash/football/Handball/Hockey/Basketball/Volleyball /Cricket/ /Diving/Water Polo/Kabaddi/Boxing.

(b Yachting/Wind Surfing. A candidate must have at least one of the following qualifications:-
  • (i) Should have participated in a Senior National Championship conducted by YAI and secured a minimum of 5th position in Olympic classes.
  • (ii) Should have represented India at the Asian Games or ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships and secured a medal in Youth/Olympic Classes.
  • (iii) Should have attained a position amongst the top 50% of the fleet in a class of boat/windsurf completed at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship.
5. Physical Standards.
  • (a) Height & weight. Minimum height-157 cm, with correlated weight.
  • (b) Eye sight. The minimum acceptable vision standards for distant vision 6/12, 6/12 correctable to 6/6, 6/6 with glasses. Candidates should not be colour/ night blind.
  • (c) Tattoo. Permanent body tattoos on any part of the body are permitted to candidates belonging to tribal communities/from tribal areas as declared by the Government of India. For other candidates permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face or forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to wrist end on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand.   • (d) There will be no relaxation in the physical standard.
SHORT SERVICE COMMISION

6. Short Service Commission is granted for a term of 10 years, extendable to 14 years in steps of 02 years each i.e 10+2+2, subject to service requirement and performance/willingness of the candidate. No extension beyond 14 years and no option for Permanent Commission in future would be granted. On completion of these tenures, officers are entitled for gratuity under the extant rules.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

7. (a) Selection (All sports other than Yachting and Wind Surfing) – Shortlisted candidates will be called for (Preliminary) interview at New Delhi. No rail fare or allowance will be admissible to candidates attending the preliminary interview at New Delhi. Candidates qualifying the preliminary interview will be detailed for Service Selection Board (SSB) at Bhopal, Bangalore, Coimbatore or Vizag followed by a medical examination.

(b) Selection (for Yachting/Wind Surfing Only) – Candidates found suitable will be required to undergo sailing selection trails by a board of officers at one of the Naval stations. Shortlisted candidates will be called for preliminary interview at New Delhi. No rail fare and allowances will be admissible to candidates attending sailing selection trials and preliminary interview. Candidates qualifying the sailing selection trials and preliminary interview will be detailed for Service Selection Board (SSB) at Bhopal, Bangalore, Coimbatore or Vizag followed by a medical examination.

(c) SSB interview will be conducted in two stages. Stage I test consisting of intelligence test. Picture perception and Discussion test will be conducted on the second day of arrival at SSB. Candidates who fail to qualify in stage I will be routed back on the same day. Stage II tests comprising of Psychological testing, Group testing and interview will last for 04 days. Successful candidate will thereafter undergo Medical examination (approx duration 03-05 days).

(d) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit will be appointed for training as per all India Merit depending on the number of vacancies.

(e) Change of SSB centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstance.

(f) Any correspondence regarding change of SSB dates be addressed to the call up officer of the SSB on receipt of call up letter. 

(g) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury of sustained as a result of tests.

(h) AC 3 tier rail fair is admissible for the SSB interview, If appearing for the first time for this commission.

TRAINING

8. The training is scheduled to commence in the month of Jan 2017.

9. Candidates will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala followed by professional training at various Naval Training Establishments/Units/Ships. Full pay and allowances are admissible to officers whilst under training (as per extant policy letter).

10. Only unmarried candidates are eligible to undergo training. Any candidate who is found to be married or marries while under training will be discharged and shall be liable to refund full pay & allowances drawn by him and other expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

DUTIES OF SPORTS OFFICER

11. Physical Training Officers at various establishments. Secretary/Assistant Secretaries at INSCB/INSCCs where he would have to look after various facets of sports management. Sports officers at Command Headquarters/establishment. Any other duties that may be called upon to perform based on requirement of services.

THE NAVY OFFERS YOU

12. Pay Scale & Promotions. The promotion from Sub Lieutenant to Commander is on time scale basis and thereafter on selection basis subject to fulfillment of requisite service conditions. The Pay Scale and promotion criteria are as follows:-

13. Allowances (as applicable). The rates of allowances applicable to officers are as follows:

14. Sports & Adventure. The Navy provides facilities to pursue any sport of your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such as river rafting, mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hand gliding, wind surfing etc.

15. Physical Fitness. In Naval Academy curriculum, a lot of emphasis is laid on physical fitness. You are therefore, advised to remain fit by undertaking regular physical exercises, sports, running, swimming, etc. so that you meet the training goals successfully.

16. Cost to Company (CTC). The CTC for a Sub Lieutenant would be approximately Rs. 74,100/- per month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay, Military Service Pay, House Rent Allowances, Transport Allowance, Ration Allowance and kit Maintenance Allowance. These rates are subject to change. 

17. Privileges. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Navy provides free Medical Facilities for Self & dependents/Canteen Facilities, Mess/Club/Sports Facilities, Furnished Govt. Accommodation, and Car/Housing Loan at subsidized rate.

18. Group Insurance & Gratuity. Insurance cover of Rs 50 lakhs (on contribution) and Gratuity as per the latest rules in force.

19. Leave Entitlements. On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual and 20 days casual leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are also entitled for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training Policy in force.

(b) Fill the online registration form. Tips to assist in filling up fields have been provided as you highlight each field.
(c) After filling the form click on Preview and check if all the information entered by you is correct.
(d) Before clicking the Print Application button it should be checked whether all the details entered in the form is correct as you will not be able to make any corrections after saving the record. Candidates can take the print of the application form by entering the relevant details.
(e) Before clicking the instructions for SSB Button, it should be checked whether all the details entered in the form are correct as you will not be able to make any corrections after saving the record. Candidates can read the instructions on conduct of SSB by clicking on the instruction for SSB button and can take the print of the application form by entering the details from the download sections under officer entry.
(f) Print two copies of the online Application Form having the system generated Application Number.
(g) Paste recent passport size colour photograph at the space provided and self attest the same.
(h)One copy of this Application Form is to be duly signed and mailed (posted) to Post Box No. 04, R K Puram Main PO, New Delhi - 110 066 along with the following documents:- Self attested photograph, Self attested photo copies of 10th & 12th class certificates along with Mark Sheets, other educational certificates and mark sheets of all semester/years. In case CGPA, candidate is required to attach certificate issued by the University for Conversion of CGPA in to percentage. Application to be sent by ordinary post only. Speed post/courier and Registered post will not be accepted. Applications received after the last date indicated will not be considered.
